Family name also spelled WEEKES and WICKS.
----------------------
At the time of the 1851 England Census Thomas Weeks, age 38* [sic], born in Wadhurst Sussex, widower, ag lab, was living in Burwash Common, Burwash Sussex. With him were daughters (born in Burwash): Harriet (16), house keeper, and Mary (13), scholar.
* Thomas's age as given is about 20 years out. Having married in 1822, then of Wadhurst, he would have been either:
- Thomas son of William Weeks and Hannah, chr. Wadhurst, 30 Jun 1802
- Thomas son of James Weeks and Mary, chr. Wadhurst, 15 May 1803
There was yet another Thomas son of Samuel Weeks and Jane, christened in Wadhurst 14 Aug 1803; however, this Thomas was single in 1851 and with his father in Wadhurst.
There is evidence to indicate that Thomas was the son of James Weeks and Mary. Thomas's eldest son, William (born in 1822 in Wadhurst), was unmarried at the time of the 1851 Census and was with his eighty-year-old grandfather James Weeks on Rise Den Farm in Wadhurst. They were both agricultural labourers. In May of the same year, William Weeks of Wadhurst, son of Thomas Weeks, labourer, married Sarah Ann Packham daughter of William Packham, miller, in Wadhurst.
At the time of the 1861 England Census Thomas Wicks, age 60, born in Wadhurst Sussex, widower, carter, was living in Bohemia, Burwash Sussex. With him were Frances M Reed, age 21, born in Uckfield Sussex, unmarried, housekeeper, and children (born in Burwash): Thomas S Wicks* (2) and Sally Reed* (1).
* From the GROE birth index, these were Thomas Samson Weeks Reed (b. 1859) and Sally Reed (b. 1860), evidently children of Thomas and Frances born outside of wedlock.
At the time of the 1871 England Census Thomas Weeks, age 68, born in Wadhurst, ag. lab.., and wife Frances Mary, age 31, born in Uckfield Sussex, were living in Poundsford Cottage, Burwash Sussex. With them were children (born in Burwash): Thomas S (12), ag. lab., Jane (8), Frances H. (7), Philadelphia (5), Annie Maria (3), and Albert John (1).
At the time of the 1881 England Census Thomas Weeks, age 78, born in Wadhurst, ag. lab., and wife Frances Mary, age 40, born in Uckfield Sussex, were living at Lime Kiln, Burwash Sussex. Present were children (born in Burwash): Thomas S (22), ag lab, Albert J (12), scholar, Elizabeth (9), scholar, Martha M (7), scholar, and Charles L (3), scholar.
At the time of the 1891 England Census Thomas Weeks, age 90, born in Wadhurst, agricultural laborer, and wife Frances M, age 42?, born in Uckfield Sussex, were living in Jubilee Cottage, Burwash Sussex. With them were sons (born in Burwash): Thomas S (32), agricultural laborer, Albert J (22), agricultural laborer, and Charles Luther (13), agricultural laborer.

Thomas Weekes of Burwash Weald died aged 100 years. Thomas's age at death is out by about 7 years. That this is the correct Thomas is confirmed by the fact that there was no other Thomas Weeks/Weekes of his generation living in Burwash during the late 1800s, and his wife Frances Mary Weekes was a widow in 1901 and residing in Burwash Weald.
