The only Martin Lawless shown in available parish registers for Ireland, born about 1820, was from Galway, which is on the other side of Ireland from Wexford: about 170 miles away and unlikely to have been this Martin.

At the time of the 1851 England Census Martin Lawless, age 31, born in Wexford Ireland, tailor & grocer, and wife Sarah, age 33, born in Lindfield Sussex, were living at 53 Church Street Brighton, Sussex. Present were children: James, age 9, born in Kingston Dublin, scholar, and born in Brighton Sussex: Martin, age 7, scholar, Sarah, age 5, scholar, Catherine, age 3, and Elizabeth, age 1.

At the time of the 1861 Census Martin Lawless, age 41, born in Ireland, tailor, and wife Sarah, age 45, born in Brighton Sussex, were living at 63 West Street Brighton Sussex. With them were children (born in Brighton): Martin (16), tailor, Sarah (14), Catherine (12), Elizabeth (10), Terisa (8), Thomas (5).
