CHAILEY

OLD RESIDENT'S DEATH.—At the King's Head on Thursday afternoon the Coroner for East Sussex(Mr. G. Vere Benson) held an inquiry into the death of Mrs. Charlotte Simmons, aged 72, of Neals Farm, Chailey Common. Deceased, the wife of a market gardener, celebrated her golden wedding on Christmas Day, and it is worthy of note that she had not had the services of a doctor for 34 years. She died suddenly on Tuesday, and at the inquest the husband stated that of late deceased had not been well, but she had refused to see a doctor.—A married daughter from Haywards Heath she did not notice anything wrong with her aged mother until Tuesday morning when she went to Chailey, and found her in bed. While witness was there deceased suddenly fell back upon the pillow, and passed away.—Dr. W. S. Orton, who held a post-mortem examination, attributed death to syncope, caused by the fatty degeneration of the heart, and the jury returned a verdict accordingly.

CHAILEY

AN INQUEST was held at the King's Head by the East Sussex Coroner on the body of Charlotte Simmons, aged 72 years. Evidence was given by the deceased's husband, who said his wife had been unwell of late, but had refused to see a doctor, and she had not been medically attended for over 30 years. Mrs. CAROLINE TERRY*, of Haywards Heath, daughter of deceased, said she noticed nothing wrong with her mother until the Tuesday morning. When she went home on that day her mother was in bed, and while witness was there her mother suddenly fell back and died. Dr. Orton, who made a post-mortem examination, stated the death was due to syncope, the result of fatty degeneration of the heart, and the jury returned a verdict of "Death from natural causes."
