At the time of the 1841 Scotland Census William Brown, aged about 43, m[an] s[ervant], and wife Mary, aged about 47, were living in Mill St., Ayr, Ayrshire. With them were children: William (19), cabinet maker, Thos. (14), John (11), Helen (6), Lillias (3). [Brother] Thomas Brown (37), blacksmith, was also present.
Not with his family at the time of the 1851 Census.
At the time of the 1861 Scotland Census William Brown, aged 65, born in Riccarton Ayrshire, prison guard, and wife Mary, aged 67, born in Galston Ayrshire, were living at 58 Mill St., Ayr, Ayrshire. With them was grandson William Brown (8) of Gorbals, Renfrew [sic].
