DEATH OF CAPT. THOMAS RICHARDS.—We have to record the almost sudden death yesterday morning of Capt. Thomas Richards, of Redruth, one of the best known men connected with Cornish mines in the county, having been formerly manager of Wheal Kitty (Lelant), Treloweth, East Trefusis, and other Cornish mines, but of late had comparatively retired into private life. He had felt unwell for about a week, and was attended by Dr. Reed, of Pool, but no immediate danger was anticipated, and on Saturday he felt much better. Capt. Richards was the son of the late Capt. William Richards, purser and manager of Wheal Basset, East Basset, Brambler, St. Aubyn, and other highly successful Cornish mines. Perhaps no-one living had a better knowledge of the value of Cornish mine machinery than Capt. Thomas Richards. He was a most respected Cornishman, a very clever mineralogist, and a good miner, and was well-known for his outspoken language at public meetings at all times. He was in the 65th year of his age.
