In 1838 William Richards of Redruth, surgeon, was nominated as one of the Trustees of the will of his brother Cpt. Philip Richards of Redruth.
In 1841 William Richards, aged about 30, surgeon, and wife Maria Richards, aged about 25, were living in Wish End, Redruth, Cornwall. With them was daughter Helen (2).
In 1851 William Joseph Richards, aged 41, born in Illogan Cornwall, General Practitioner, M.R.C.S. & L.A.H., and wife Maria Knight Richards, aged 36, born in St. Blazey Cornwall, were living in Green Lane, Redruth. With them were children (born in Redruth) Mary Ann (8), scholar, William Joseph (7), scholar, Amelia (6), scholar, George Jno. Knight (1) and Charles Herbert (6 months).

At Redruth, on the 14th instant, aged 46, William Joseph Richards, Esq., surgeon ; deeply regretted by his family and relatives, and also by thousands of miners and others whom he was in the habit of attending, and by whom he was much beloved. He was the surgeon of upwards of 30 mines, and had been in practice more than 20 years. His funeral, on Tuesday, was attended by at least 6,000 persons; and, with two exceptions, all the shops in the town were closed, as a remark of respect to his memory.
