In 1841 Johnson Symons, aged about 35, born in the county, agent, and wife Grace Symons, aged about 35, born in the county, were living in Penpol Terrace, Phillack, Cornwall. With them were children John (13), Ann (15), Richard (10), and Elizabeth (2).
In 1843 Johnson Simons was a witness at the marriage of his nephew John Tremelling to Elizabeth Thomas.
In 1851 Johnson Simons, aged 50, born in Phillack, copper ore agent, and wife Grace Simons, aged 48, born in Phillack, were living in Penpoll Terrace, Phillack. With them were children (born in Phillack): John (23), merchant's office clerk, Richard (20), railway office clerk, Elizth (12), A.P. Pengelly (24), married, son-in-law William Pengelly (25) of Madron, tide surveyor in customs, granddaughter Nurance R. Pengelly (2m) of Phillack.
In 1861 Johnson Simons, aged 59, born in Phillack, shipping agent, and wife Grace Simons, aged 58, born in Phillack, were living in Penpol Terrace, Phillack. With them was daughter Elizabeth (22).
In 1871 Johnson Simons, aged 69, born in Phillack, shipping agent (census taker's remark: disability - lunatic recently), and wife Grace Simons, aged 68, born in Phillack, were living in 54 Penpoll Terrace, Phillack. Present was daughter Ann Pengelly (45), widow, grocer.
