" Death of Mr. C. Bennett, Sen.

It is with feelings of deep regret that we announce to our readers the sudden and unexpected death of Mr. Christopher Bennett, sen., head of the Evening News and the Town and Country Journal engineering department. Mr. Bennett, though he had been slightly troubled with a cold during the past few days, was apparently in sound health for a man of his advanced years. He drove home yesterday afternoon to his residence at Darling Point, and appeared to be in his customary spirits all the evening, but expired with awful suddenness about 11 o'clock, the cause of death being the sudden stoppage of the action of the heart. The deceased was a brother of the late Samuel Bennett, founder of the Evening News and the Town and Country Journal, and was about 75 years of age. He was born at Camborne, Cornwall, and his calling was that of a mechanical engineer. He served his apprenticeship at the Hale Foundry, Cornwall. He had travelled a great deal through America in his earlier days, and took up his residence in Australia over half a century ago. He had charge of the engineering department of this establishment from the foundation of the various journals issued from it, and was held in high esteem by his relatives and by all with whom he was associated in the office. His terribly sudden death is naturally felt as a severe blow by his family and his connections. He leaves a widow and four young children."
