Co-executor of his father's Will (1559)

In his mother's will, written 1580, William was bequeathed her parcel gilt goblet as well as a black gown should he attend her funeral.

William Skinner, of Shelfield, Warwickshire ... was a Catholic, a favourer of Mary, Queen of Scots, and a harbourer of priests, whose house was searched in January 1583/4. 2

Wills that his body be buried in the chancell should he die in the parish of Rowington.

Gives £40 to be distributed to the poor people at the discretion of his two sons.

Gives £5 to the poor people of Rowington.

Gives £3 to the poor people of Henley in Arden.

Gives £4 to the poor people of Alcester.

Gives £100 to Thomas Weeks his daughter's son, to be paid to him when he reaches the age of twenty-one years. Until then he wills that Thomas be paid £10 yearly toward his maintenance.

Gives to his daughter Martha's daughter Alice Weeks £100 that she had from his son-in-law Mr. Weeks, to be paid to her when she reaches the age of eighteen years or when she marries, whichever comes first.

Gives £20 to his daughter Bennett.

Gives £20 to his daughter Martha Fettiplace.

Gives to his son John Skynner all the household stuff in the lodge at Shelfield, as well as his house and all that belongs to it in Dedington. Also gives to John all his land in Adderburie which he has given him be deed, as well as all the annuities he is joined with him in.

Gives to his cousin William Fortescue his best gelding horse or mare as he chooses.

Gives £20 to his servant John Reve if he is still with him at the time of his decease.

Gives £10 to his servant George Greene if he is still with him at the time of his decease.

Gives £5 to Thomas Smythe his horsekeeper if he is still with him at the time of his decease.

Gives £20 to his friend Harrie Huddeford.

Gives to his other servants not named before their wages 40 shillings each, if they are still with him in Rowington at the time of his decease.

Gives £5 to Nicholas Greene.

Gives £10 to Thomas Gyes and Elizabeth his wife to help maintain themselves.

Gives to his son Anthony his lease of Shelfield Park along with all his other leases excepting the lease of Grove Park which he gives to his son John.

Gives £5 to his servant George Breres.

Makes his son Anthony sole executor of his last will and testament and to whom he gives all the residue of his goods.

Gives to his daughter Digbie two kyne.

Gives to his son John Skynner a gelding or £10 in money, a pair of fine holland sheets, six pair of flaxen sheets, and eight dozen coarse napkins.

Gives to his daughter Skynner his son's wife his best ambling mare.

Gives to his son Fettiplace a gelding or £10 in money. Gives to his daughter Fettiplace his young grey colt.

Gives £5 to his sister Ellis and forgives all her debts to him.

Gives to Ursula Fortescue his cousin Fortescue's wife a ring or 40 shillings to buy herself one.

Gives to his cousin Dorothy Brooke his crucifix.

Wills that his son John shall have two years to remove his goods at Shelfield.

Wills that his servants at Shelfield shall have their one-year's wages doubled.

Wills that his man Thomas Parre, his wife and son, shall have a lease of Parker's House for £6 13s. 4d. per annum for a period of eighty years.

Wills that William Hancox and his wife shall have £5 a year during their lives.

Forgives Richard Kidney the 50 shillings bond he owes for the white gelding, and Richard's wife the 20 shillings she owes him.

Forgives Bennett Cottrell the 20 shillings her husband owes him.

Gives to Nicholas Greene 40 shillings a year during his life.

Gives £5 to Richard Darlinge.

Forgives Thomas Cowper of Oldfield the 53 shillings 4 pence he owes him.

Gives $5 to Henry Huddeford over and above the £20 he has already bequeathed him.

Gives to Thomas Nicholls 40 shillings and to old Richard Hall 20 shillings.

Witnesses: W. Fortescue, Henry Huddeford, George Greene.

Memorandum: If Alexander Fettiplace his son-in-law contends any of his bequests then the legacy to Alice Weeks his daughter's daughter shall be null and void.

  Marriage Information:

William married Alicia Oldenhall, daughter of John Oldenhall of Rowington, Gent., on an unknown date. (Alicia died before 1599.)
