Settlement (post nuptial), in consideration of the marriage of Sir William Morgan and Brigett, daughter of Anthony Morgan of Heyford, Northamptonshire, esq., and to provide a jointure, of the mansion house of Maughen alias Machen, co. Mon., and of land belonging of the clear yearly value of £140 and of the water mill of Maughen called the newe mill of the yearly value of £20 per annum and of several m's and lands in p. Maughen.

Anthony Palmer of Stoke Doyle was named in the Will of his father-in-law* Anthony Morgan of Heyford, esquire, and nominated as a potential overseer of his Will (written 1610, proved 1611).

* i.e. Anthony Morgan was the second husband of Anthony Palmer's mother; in other words, his stepfather.

William Wattes of Blakesley, co. Northampton, esq., to Anthony Palmer of Stoke Doyley, co. Northampton, esq.: in the sum of £300 to pay to Montague Watts the sum of £200 within six months of the death of the said William Watts or Mary his wife, whichever happens first and £100 within one year of the said death according to a bond entered into jointly by the said William Watts and Anthony Palmer with Sir George Paule of Water Lambeth, co. Surrey.

In his father's 1570 Will, Anthony was bequeathed £30 a year from rent charges out of his father's estates for the duration of his life, as well as all his plate and household stuff.

In 1624 Anthony’s daughter, Mary Saunderson of London, widow, wrote her will in which she bequeathed to her father Anthony Palmer Esq. and his second wife 40 shillings each for rings.

Abstract of the Will of Anthony Palmer of the Parish of Stoke Doyle in the County of Northampton, Esquire, written 15 Apr 1633, proved 27 May 1633. 8

(Names of family members are underlined.)

Gives £20 to his son Miles if he returns to England. Before he left he gave him £20 and another £20 since.

Refers to a tripartite indenture dated 14 Dec 16 Jas I. (1618) between himself and his second son Edward Palmer at the time he married whereby he would have the use of several of his estates under certain limitations, whereafter the said estates will be for the use of his third son Nathaniel Palmer and to his male heirs. In default of such male heirs then the estates would be for the use of his fourth and youngest son Augustine Palmer and his male heirs.

Item. Gives £50 to his son Augustine for the further augmentation of his portion.

Refers to an indenture of the Right Honourable William Earle of Exeter dated 12 Sep 2 Chas. I. (1626) in which was demised to Anthony Palmer farmlands in Allwinkle in co. Northampton for the term of 99 years if William Barton and Catherine his wife, Anthony's daughter, and Edward Palmer, Anthony's grandson, or any of them, shall live so long. And whereas the said William Barton his son-in-law owes him £100 he releases him from it. However if he pays it within a year following Anthony's decease, then he will be released from the aforesaid lease of land which will then go to Anthony's son Edward Palmer, or to Anthony's son-in-law Thomas Hampson in trust for the benefit of his daughter Catherine and her children.

Item. He gives 10 shillings each to his sons, daughters and grandchildren.

Item. Gives 20 shillings each to his brothers-in-law Edward Watts and Montague Watts, as well as 20 shillings to the wife of Edward Watts.

Item. Gives £20 to Margery Johnson his wife's niece who has been of great service to him.

Item. Gives 5 marks to his servant Henry Wells.

Item. Gives 5 shillings each to every man and boy servant in his house  at the time of his death.

Item. Gives 3 shillings 4 pence each to every maid servant in his house at the time of his death.

Item. Gives £5 to the town of Stoke Doyle for the increase of its stock.

Item. Gives to Mr. Balgay minister of Stoke Doyle a book written by Mr. Moulin a French writer.

Item. Gives 40 shillings each to his brother-in-law Mr. Alderman Parkhurst and his wife, Anthony's sister, and sister Smith, as a small remembrance for the favours he has received from them.

Item. Gives 10 shillings to Mr. Smith, minister of Oundle.

Item. Gives 10 shillings to Mr. Knoseln, minister of Tanfor.

Item. Gives 10 shillings each to Mr. Dillingam and Mr. Worthingham, ministers of Barnwell.

Item. Gives 10 shillings to Mr. Hunt, minister of Hemington.

Item. Gives 10 shillings to Mr. Manasoie?, minister of Barwick.

Item. Gives 10 shillings to Mr. Houghton, minister of Latton.

Item. Gives 10 shillings and 8 . . . . . . . of barley to Mr. Lewes, minister of Lillford.

All the rest of his goods and chattels he gives to Frances his wife whom he makes the sole executrix.

Requests that the Right Honourable Edward Lord Montague be the supervisor of his Will giving him 40 shillings in thanks.
