Jane ODGERS
- Christened: 4 Dec 1756, Redruth, Cornwall 1
- Married: 20 Jul 1777, Camborne, Cornwall 2
General Notes:
Compiler's 5 x great grandmother
Research Notes:
There were two individuals by the name of Jane Odgers born in Redruth in the 1750s:
- Jane, chr. 24 Apr 1753, daughter of William Odgers and Elizabeth Harry, and
- Jane, chr. 4 Dec 1756, daughter of William Odgers and Constance Teague.
Jane daughter of William Odgers and Constance Teague is shown as wife of Francis Vivian, even though none of the children or grandchildren of Francis and Jane were named Constance. William and Constance, though married in Redruth, moved to Camborne, where their youngest son, James, was christened. William and Constance were buried in Camborne, and their children also married there. Thomas Odgers, son of William and Constance, was most likely the same Thomas Odgers who was a witness at the marriages of two of Jane's daughters—Anne Waters née Vivian to Edward Richards, and Mary Vivian to Robert Knapp. Note that one of the witnesses at the marriage of Thomas Odgers to Catherine Allen in 1790 was Francis Vivian. Jane's sister, Sarah, married Henry Vivian, cousin of Jane's husband, and probably the same Henry Vivian who was a witness at the marriage of Jane's son, Francis, to Anne Richards.
There is a remote possibility that Jane, daughter of William Odgers and Elizabeth Harry, was the wife of Francis Vivian, as their eldest daughter was called Elizabeth. However, this particular family had closer ties with St. Ives than with Camborne, and so it seems more likely that Jane Odgers who married Francis Vivian was the daughter of William Odgers and Constance Teague.
