In 1868, Nicholas James West was a witness at the marriage of his sister Elizabeth to John Mead.

In 1871, Nicholas J. West (32) of St. Agnes, civil engineer, and wife Ellen (26) of Penryn, were living in Foundry, St. Erth. Present were sons (born in Phillack): Rooblie Hassan (3), Haarlem Ethneen (2)

In 1881, Nicholas J. West (41) of St. Agnes, civil engineer, and wife Helen (36) of Penryn, were living in Foundry House, St. Erth. Present were children (born in St. Erth): Haarlem E. (12), scholar, Howard S. (6), scholar, Ethel (4)
