"LAURIUM - Sara K. Jilbert, 91, a resident of Laurium, passed away unexpectedly on Monday afternoon, May 3, 2010, at her home.
She was born July 22, 1918, in Calumet, a daughter of the late Martin and Kate (Ala) Backstrom. She was a graduate of Calumet High School with the Class of 1936 and then went on to attend Marquette Business School.
Sara was a lifelong resident of Calumet and Laurium, working as an office manager for the local cable TV company, retiring in 1975.
Her most important joy in life was her family.
Sara enjoyed reading, Scrabble, crossword puzzles, knitting, crocheting and baking. In past years, she was an avid bowler at Miller's in Laurium and in tournaments. She was the beginning of four generations of cheerleaders.
She was married to Clyde Jilbert in 1974 and he preceded her in death on November 15, 1996.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Stewart Solmonson; son, Jack Solmonson; granddaughter, Donna Solomonson; six brothers, Bill, Jack, Daniel, Arnold, Gerhart and Alfred; and four sisters, Nelma, Eva, Hilda and Waldina.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan (Myles) Gregorich of Laurium, Jean Buschell of Calumet; son, Paul (Sue) Solomonson of Laurium; eight grandchildren, John Paul, Beverly and Justin Solomonson, Cindy Schuler, Tony Gregorich, Jake Solmonson, Kristine Cooper and Tony Coppo; 12 great-grandchildren, Chad, Nick, Amelia, Ben, Jordon, Haley, Jason, Joshua, Jacob, Jeremy, Josie and Madison; two great-great-grandchildren, Kobe and Kaylynn; a brother, Paul (Bertha) Backstrom of Florida Location; numerous nieces and nephews; and many very dear friends, especially Vi and Fran Cloutier...."
