In 1861 James Hooper, aged 28, born in St. Agnes Cornwall, copper miner, and wife Emily, aged 24, born in Gwennap Cornwall, were living in Buller's Row, Redruth. With them was son James H. (11m) of Redruth.

In 1871 James Hooper, aged 38, born in St. Agnes Cornwall, tin & copper miner, and wife Emily, aged 34, born in Gwennap Cornwall, were living in Redruth Cornwall. With them were children (born in Redruth) James (10), scholar, Thomas (8), scholar, William (5), scholar, Anna Maria (3), scholar, and John (8 mths).

In 1881 James Hooper, aged 48, born in St. Agnes Cornwall, copper miner, and wife Emily, aged 44, born in Gwennap Cornwall, were living at 21 Dump Road, Redruth Cornwall. Present were children (born in Redruth) James (20), copper miner, Thomas (18), carpenter, William (15), ag lab, Annie (13), scholar, John (10), scholar, Louisa (8), scholar, and Benjamin (4), scholar.
