Obituary.
"DEATH OF MR C. TEMBY.
We regret to chronicle the death of an old and esteemed friend and citizen of Traralgon, in the person of Mr C. Temby, which sad event took place on Saturday evening last. For something like three years the late Mr Temby had been ailing and although the best medical advice was obtained nothing could be done to restore him back to health and strength again. In fact, it was only the splendid spirit and courage of the late Mr Temby that kept him up, and through it all he was possessed of that cheerful spirit which was characterstic of him. About a fortnight ago deceased was well enough to get about a little, and went for a motor trip with Mr Knight while many friends were pleased to see him in the street again. The following week deceased took a bad turn, and was compelled to keep to his bed. On Friday he was in a semi unconscious state, and peacefully passed away the following evening about 8 pm. The cause of death was pernicious anĉmia.
The late Mr Temby was 64 years of age. He was a native of Beechworth, and for 20 years prior to coining to Traralgon, followed the strenuous calling of a commercial traveller. His great business ability, cheerfulness and tact made him friends wherever he went, and the name of C. Temby will long be cherished by his fellow commercial men, by all of whom he was held in the very highest esteem.
The late Mr Temby and family took up their residence in Traralgon a little over 10 years ago, deceased entering into business as a general storekeeper, which he successfully carried on for some years while a branch store was opened at Cowwarr. Deceased then disposed of the Traralgon business and purchased another at Glenmaggie. Some time later he returned here, and during the great war was appointed manager for Messrs Milligan Bros., a position which he filled with credit until the return of the proprietors from the war. A few months back he again entered business with Mr H Stephens as partner, acquiring the store carried on by Mr Geo Cochrane, but failing health compelled him to relinquish his interest in same.
In anything for the welfare of the town and district, the late Mr Temby was always to the fore, and he was highly respected by everyone, while those who were fortunate enough to number deceased amongst their personal friends, knew him to be a thorough gentleman, and a man of sterling character and wonderful abilityin fact a "white man" in the real sense of the term, and a good husband and father. He was a member of the Methodist Trust, the Progress and Traders Associations, &c.
The heartfelt sympathy of a large circle of friends will be extended to Mrs Temby and family in their sad bereavement. There is a family of four children viz., Mr Harold Temby, Mrs Sutton Crow, Mrs D L Crowe, and Mr Ray Temby (late A.I.F.).
The funeral took place yesterday (Monday) afternoon, when the remains of deceased were interred in the Traralgon Cemetery. The burial service was conducted by the Rev. H. C. Kent, Methodist Minister, and a number of friends assembled to pay their last tribute of respect to the memory of deceased. On the coffin were a number of lovely floral tributes, and many felt that they had indeed lost a friend. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr E. J. Grubb." 4
