" TEMBY. — On the 8th November, at his late residence, 51 Rupert Street, Collingwood, Nicholas Temby, formerly of Yackandandah. Aged 70 years."

"OBITUARY

A few months ago Mr. Nicholas Temby an old resident of Yackandandah, took his departure from the district and settled down in Melbourne. We regret to hear of his death, which took place on Sunday last, after a long and painful illness, the cause being throat affection and pneumonia. The deceased, who was 70 years of age, was born in Cornwall, in August 1855 [sic]*, where he followed up mining for some years. He was one of the party that worked the Wooragee deep lead. About 15 years ago he relinquished mining, and was a familiar figure as carrier on the Beechworth to Yackandandah road. Up to the time of his departure, he followed the occupation of carrier, but failing health necessitated his retirement. However, the news of his death came as a surprise on Monday, for although it was known he was ailing there was no idea that his end was so close. Mr and Mrs Montfort on Monday sustained a bereavement in the loss of their infant child, who was only a few weeks old. Last week Mr Taylor died at their residence and on Monday they received intimation of the death of Mr N. Temby, a brother-in-law."

* Undoubtedly a mistype for August 1833; he could not have died aged 70 years in 1903 and be born in 1855. 6
