Research Notes:
"Grant County Herald May 4, 1927 SHERM HAYDEN DEAD Was Shot by Wife at Indiana Harbor Wednesday
S.P. "Sherm" Hayden of Little Grant, aged 54, and a well known character of this vicinity for years, died at a hospital in Indiana Harbor, Ind, Friday of bullet wounds inflicted by his wife last Wednesday. Following the shooting Mrs. Hayden shot herself. She was alive up to the time of writing but in a precarious condition and if she lives, it is said she will be blind. The body of Mr. Hayden was brought to Glen Haven by train Sunday. Funeral services were held at the Congregation church in Bloomington Monday afternoon. Burial was in Providence cemetery near Bloomington. Details of the affair are meagre [sic]. It was said here Monday that domestic differences caused the shooting. The Haydens lived for years in the Little Grant. About four years ago Mr. Hayden went to Mason City, Iowa, to reside, his wife and children remaining here. Later "Sherm" moved to Indiana harbor and his wife joined him there. The Haydens have two children, a son and daughter."

From the Grant County Herald, August 25, 1915.
While threshing at Frank Morrow's Sherm Hayden was adjusting the knives that cut the bands, when some of the hands sarted the machine and Sherm got a bad cut on one of his legs. The doctor put several stitches in it.
