  Research Notes:

In 1900, Rhod[a] Hocking (34) of England (mother of 5 children, 1 deceased) and husband Charles Hockings (44) of England, slate cutter, were living in East Bangor Borough, Northampton, Pennsylvania, USA. Present were children: Edith (19) of England, Florence (18) of England, William (8) of Pennsylvania, at school, Charles A. (11) of Pennsylvania, at school, father Edward Langmead (68) of England, widower, slate holeman. Rhoda's brother John Langmead was boarding nearby.

In 1910, Rhoda J. Hocking (43) of England and husband Charles Hocking (52) of England, slate quarryman, were living in East Bangor Borough, Northampton, Pennsylvania. Present were sons (born in PA): William (22), and Charles A. (19), both slate quarrymen, father Edward B. Langmead (78) of England, widower, labourer doing odd jobs.

In 1920, Rhoda J. Hocking (53) of England and husband Charles Hocking (62) of England, slater in a slate quarry, were living in East Bangor, Northampton, Pennsylvania.

  Marriage Information:

Rhoda married Charles Hockings, son of John Hockins and Susan, about 1886. (Charles Hockings was born in May 1857 in Larkham Quarry, Diptford, Devon, England, christened on 14 Jun 1857 in Diptford, Devon, England 3 and died in 1931 in East Bangor, Northampton, PA, USA 4.)

  Marriage Notes:

According to the 1900 U.S. Federal Census, Charles and Rhoda were married 21 years at that time which means that Rhoda would have been just shy of 13 years old which seems highly unlikely. However, the informant, who was undoubtedly Charles himself, first married 21 years before to Susanna Andrews in the Newton Abbott district of Devon. Susanna, who died in 1883 in Devon at the age of 23 years was the mother of Edith and Florence. This is clarified in the 1910 U.S. Federal Census which shows Charles and Rhoda having been married for 24 years (i.e. from about 1886), his 2nd marriage, her first, and she the mother of two children (i.e. Charles Arthur and William).
