Research Notes:
GREAT SYMPATHY is felt at Camborne for Mr. William Manhire and his family, Adelaide-street, and also for Mrs. Manhire, jun., whose husband died in South Africa recently. Deceased, a young married man, left home not long ago for the Rand, but fever laid such slow, relentless grip of Mr. Manhire that he cannot come to us.
SAD NEWS was received at Camborne from South Africa on Saturday of the death of William Manhire, son of Mr. William Manhire, of Adelaide-street in that town. He left for South Africa on the 22nd August, 1896, and went to work in the New Comet mine. He was taken ill underground (stoppage of the bowels) on 25th April and was removed to the mine hospital and attended by the best doctor that could be procured; but did not seem to get any better. He was advised to undergo an operation but would not consent; but, ultimately, becoming worse, consented to the operation on the 30th April. All was done that possibly could be for him but he died on the 4th May. He was a member of the old Camborne Blues' Football-club and was much liked and respected by all who knew him. Mr. William Manhire was 22 and leaves a widow, who resides at Keave-mill, near Reskadinnick.
