"On Tuesday January 16, Mrs Charlotte Bruce,wife of Robert Bruce.Lot 11 con 3, Mara passed away at the ripe age of seventy-eight years. She was born in the township of Brock and came to the township of Mara with her brother Henry Dure in the year 1868, and was married to Robert Bruce in 1871 [ sic]. To them were born four daughters: Mrs David Speedie who predeceased her mother several years. Mrs S. Fraleigh of London. Ont., Mrs Malcolm Campbell of Mara and Miss Matilda at home with her father. Her last illness was very short, she being up and around the home until Saturday before her death. Mrs Bruce was brought up in the Anglican Church. Being fond of reading, her mind was stored with much that was good, and for this reason it was always pleasant and profitable to converse with her. She was a wise and loving mother, a kind and sympathetic neighbour. She leaves to mourn her loss three daughters and her husband. The service at home was conducted by Rev. A. E. McCutchings and Rev. R. Chidley. The pallbearers were her three brothers, Edward, James and Robert Dure, two sons-in-law.David Speedie and Sydney Fraleigh and John Ritchie." 4
