----------------------------

In 1850, William Bennett (28) of England, miner, and wife Emily (26) of England, were living in East Fork, Jo Daviess, Illinois, USA. With them were children (born in England): John (4), Caroline (1).

In 1860, William Bennetts (38) of England and wife Emily (36) of England, were living in Scales Mound Township, Jo Daviess, Illinois. With them were children (born in Illinois): John (13), Angeline (9), William P. (4), Mary J. (1), Elizabeth C. (0)

In 1870, Wm. Bennett (48) of England, day laborer, and wife Emily (45) of England, keeping house, were living in Apple River, Jo Daviess, Illinois. Present were children (born in IL): Mary (12), Samuel (5).

In 1880, William Bennet (57) of England, miner, and wife Emily (55) of England, keeping house, were living in Apple River, Jo Daviess, Illinois. Present were children: Jennie (21), servant, Samuel (15), at school.

In the 1900 U.S. Census, William Bennett (81) of England, miner, widowed, was living in Apple River Twp., Jo Daviess, Illinois. [Note: He gave his year of immigration as 1859 which is undoubtedly a decade or more out, since he and his family appear in the 1850 Census). Likewise his age as given is incorrect (born Jan 1819), particularly compared against his age in all other Censuses. Similarly, the Cemetery record shows that he died aged 85 years, 2 months, 22 days, meaning he would've been born in Jan 1818. This was the year in which his older brother William was born (and who died young in 1821). Youngest son Samuel married Cora Davison in 1892 and he names his parents as William Bennett & Emily Treague [Teague], and so this is the correct William.
