Some sources indicate that Mary, born in 1808, was the daughter of Benjamin Dennis and Catherine Harris. Her death entry in the NSW BDM records her father's name as Benjamin (i.e. Benjamin Dennis). However, Benjamin and Catherine did not have a daughter Mary. Mary, christened 8 Jun 1808, was the daughter of Henry Dennis and Mary Harris. Henry was Benjamin's brother, and Catherine was Mary's sister, and the brothers were the sons of Benjamin Dennis and Elizabeth Fine.

In 1841 Mary Bray, aged about 30, born in the county, and Edmund Bray, aged about 35, born in the county, copper miner, were living in Chytodden, Camborne, Cornwall. With them were sons Edmund (6) and James (2). Mary's widowed mother and siblings were living nearby in Chytodden.
In 1851 Mary Bray, aged 43, born in Camborne, and husband Edmund Bray, aged 44, born in Camborne Cornwall, copper miner, were at Centenary Row, Camborne, Cornwall. With them were children (born in Camborne) Edmund (17), copper mine boy, James (12), copper mine boy, Caroline (9), scholar, William (6), scholar, nephew John Bray (22), copper miner, nieces Ann (19), copper mine girl, Elizabeth (18), copper mine girl, Jane (16), copper mine girl.
On 21 Dec 1858 Edmund Bray, aged 48, wife Mary, aged 47, and children James (18), Caroline A. (16) and William (12), arrived in New South Wales, Australia aboard the vessel Forest Monarch. 4
