"Hazel E. Rule
Hazel Elizabeth Rule, 98, of Monroe, Washington, passed away March 7, 2007. Hazel was born April 23, 1908, in Bellingham, Washington, to William and Elizabeth (Cramer) Reeve. She graduated from Whatcom High School and Bellingham Normal School. She taught at the Beach School on Lummi Island before returning to Western Washington College, earning a BA in Education. Hazel went on to teach almost 25 years as an elementary school teacher and retired from the Seattle School District in 1973. In 1929 she married Paul H. Rule with whom she had three children. She and Paul were adventurous world travelers. Hazel and Paul had a farm on the Skykomish River where they raised raspberries until establishing Thunderbird Park in 1970. She has left her family with many happy memories of fun times at 'the farm' as well as Grandma's famous potato salad. Hazel left us with grace, dignity and style. Thank you to Mariam at P.A.T.H.S. who helped to make that possible. Hazel is survived by her three children, Robert (JoAnn) Rule, Rita (Roderick) Dunn and Margaret (Harold) Ohlsen; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, in 1985. Hazel was a member of the Tualco Grange, the Monroe Historical Society, and the Monroe United Methodist Church...." 2
