"THE DEATH OF MR. A. B. LAKEMAN.

An inquest was held at Smith-terrace, Glenelg, on Saturday afternoon by the City Coroner (Dr. W. Ramsay Smith) concerning the cause of the sudden death of Mr. Alfred Bates Lakeman, of the Taxation Office, which took place early on Friday morning.

Dr. J. H. H. Finniss deposed that he was summoned to attend Mr. Lakeman shortly after 5 o'clock on Friday morning, but on his arrival, life was extinct. He held a post-mortem examination, and found that death was caused through hemorrhage of the brain.

Alice Selina Lakeman identified the body as that of her husband. He appeared to be in his usual health on retiring to rest on Thursday evening. He rose at 5 o'clock on the following morning, and returned to bed after ascertaining the time. Shortly afterwards she was awakened by the hard breathing of her husband, who was lying with his head out of bed, unconscious. Her efforts to restore him to consciousness were unavailing.

The jury returned a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony. The Coroner pointed out that there would have been no necessity to hold an inquest had the doctor seen Mr. Lakeman prior to his death." 4
