David had a younger brother, William, with whom David's son, Joseph, was staying in 1851 in South Square, 84, Old Monkland, Middle Ward and Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Both William (then aged 40 years) and Joseph (then aged 19) were [iron] puddlers. William was married to Agnes (then aged 38), who was born in Dumbarton, Dunbarton. Present were visitors from Wales: Jane Richards (40), married, Eliza Richards (13) and William Richards (10) 4

In 1851, David Hughes (60) of Llanfullbyr?,* glazier, was living in Penybryn, Wrexham Abbott, Denbighshire. Present were wife Mary (62) of Llanfar, Denbighshire, daughter Anne (13) of Wrexham.

* One transcription shows this as Llanfachreth (in Merioneth) but this seems unlikely.

4 Jane was the wife of Henry Richards. At the time of the 1861 Census, Henry Richards, age 50, born in Llantyd-----, Wales, puddler, and wife Jane, age 50, born in Merthy Tydrd [Merthyr Tydfil] Wales, were living at 4 Staffordshire Row, Conside and Knitsley, Durham. With them were children: Eliz, age 23, born in Dowlais, Wales, dress maker, and William, age 21, born in Dowlais, Wales, puddler, and niece Elizabeth Richards, age 5, born in Scotland. In 1871 Henry and Jane, both aged 60, both born in Glamorganshire, were at the same address. Henry Richards and Jane Rees were married in Merthyr Tydfil on 13 Apr 1835. Unable to determine from the limited information whether this family were related to William and David or to William's wife, Agnes.
