In the 1939 Register William N Neale (b. 19 Jun 1864), retired, and wife Elizabeth Neale (b. 27 Jun 1866), unpaid domestic duties, were in Bata Cottage Aughton, Wiltshire.

COLLINGBOURNE KINGSTON
FUNERAL OF MR. W. N. NEALE.—The funeral of Mr. William Nathan Neale was conducted by the Vicar (the Rev. A. J. G. Chard), and the hymn, "Nearer, my God, to Thee," was sung. The family mourners were Mrs. Neale (widow), Mrs. Scriven and Mrs. Peto (sisters), Mrs. Sweet (adopted daughter), Mr. Peto and Mr. Bratchell (brothers-in-law), Mrs. L. Peto, Mrs. Ward, Mrs. Butler and Mrs. Grist (nieces), and Mr. and Mrs. Gwist (nephew and niece).... Deceased, who was 76 years of age, was a native of Bedwyn, and came to Collingbourne as a postman. He faithfully performed his duties, and to mark his long and honourable service he was awarded the King's Medal. For some time he was on the staff at Burbage. During the South African War he was called up for military service, but was unable to go for medical reasons, and acted as a sergeant-instructor in musketry in Ireland. He took a leading part in the old Collingbourne Club, and when that was disbanded he started the Slate Club. For some time he was a local representative on the committee of the Wilts Men's Conservative Benefit Society. He was a keen Churchman, and in his early days made a house-to-house collection to have the bells put in repair.
