In 1853 Elijah Fruen was a witness at the marriage of his sister Sarah to James Valentine Neale.

In 1861, Elijah Fruen, aged 22 [sic], born in Martin Wilts, ag. lab., and wife Miriam, aged 34, born in Lower Chalk, were living in Great Bedwyn. Present were children (born in Martin: Elizabeth Ann (11), scholar, Mary Jane (7), scholar, William (3), sholar

In 1871, Elijah Fruen, aged 41, born in Greatbedwin Wilts, laborer, and wife Miriam, aged 42, born in Bowerchalk Wilts, were living at 4 Italian Walk, Lambeth, London. Present were son William Fruen (15) of Gt Bedwin, laborer, son Isaac R. (5) of Lambeth Surrey, scholar, daughter Alice M. Fruen (5 mnths) of Lambeth Surrey, grandson Francis E. Fruen (1 mnth) of Marylebone Middlesex.

"SHOCKING ACCIDENT.—On the 17th inst. Mr. Carter held an inquest at the Henry VIII tavern, High-street Lambeth, touching the death of Elijah Fruen, aged 43 years. The deceased was a labourer employed at Doulton and Co.'s potteries, High-street, Lambeth. On the 15th, while removing the clay-cutting knives off one of the engines for the purpose of regrinding them, he got inside one of the clay-moulding tubes, and both his legs were cut off. He died in twenty minutes after saying, "Give me a drop of water." The jury returned a verdict of Accidental Death. Mr. Doulton was present at the inquest, and said he would provide for the widow and five children of the deceased."
