In 1851, Samuel Cole (29) of Slapton, agricultural labour, and wife Ann (28) of Blackawton, were living in Frogmore, South Pool, Devon. Present were children (born in South Pool): Louese (8), scholar, Thomas (5), Henry (3), Mary Jane (1)
In 1861, Samuel Cole (43) [sic] of Slapton, labourer, and wife Ann (42) [sic] of Blackawton, were living in Charleton Devon. Present were children born (a) in South Pool: Henry (13), farm boy, Elizabeth (6), scholar, and (b) in Charleton: Agness (4), scholar, Charlotte (1)
In 1871, Samuel Cole (53) of Sherford, ag lab, married*, was living in Village of South Pool Devon. Present were children: Elizabeth A. (18) of Sherford, Charlotte (11) of South Pool, Susan (8) of South Pool, Rosa (8 months) of South Pool
* Wife Ann Cole was in Chivelstone at this time, born in Blackawton, married, called nurse woman and labourer's wife.

Presumably this Samuel Cole died in South Pool, aged 54 years according to the burial record. This age matches that given in the later Censuses, whereas his age given in the earlier Censuses and in the marriage record is more accurate.
