At the time of the 1891 Scotland Census William Montgomerie, aged 61, born in Tarbolton Ayrshire, widower, silk weaver, was living in Sandgate St., Tarbolton. Present were children: William (17), silk weaver, Hugh (15), silk weaver, Agnes (12), scholar, Roberta (9), scholar.
At the time of the 1901 Scotland Census William Montgomery, aged 71, born in Tarbolton Ayrshire, widower, weaving agent, was living at 28 Montgomery St., Tarbolton. With him were daughters Agnes (22), dressmaker, Berta (19), housekeeper, grandson Adam Walker (2)*
* Adam was the natural-born son of Agnes and her future husband William Walker.
