In 1871 Benjamin Phillips (44) of Gwithian, engine smith, and wife Jane (31) of St. Erth were living in Gwithian Vean, Gwithian. With them were children (born in Gwithian): Blanch (4), John S. (7 months).

In 1881 Benjamin Phillips (54) of Gwithian, agricultural labourer, and wife Jane (40) of St. Erth were living at Belle Vue no. 2, Gwithian. With them were children (born in Gwithian): Blanche (14), John Skewes (10), scholar, William A. (8), Matilda S. (7), Philippa G. (4), Margaret E. (10 months). Benjamin's sister Philippa Phillips was living nextdoor.

In 1891 Benjamin Phillips (64) of Gwithian, agricultural labourer, and wife Jane (50) of Gwithian were living at Belle Vue no. 1, Gwithian. Present were children (born in Gwithian): Blanch (24), dressmaker, John S. (20), agricultural labourer, William A. (18), imbecile, Matilda S. (17), Philippa G. (14), Margaret E. (10), scholar.

In 1901 Benjamin Phillips (74) of Gwithian, [widower], farmer, own account, was living in Belview, Gwithian. At home were children: William A. (27), imbecile, Matilda S. (25), Phillipa G. (23), Margaret Elizth. (20), school teacher.

We record with regret the death of Mr. Benjamin Phillips, who passed away at his residence, Belvieu, Gwithian, on Monday, the 22nd inst., at the ripe age of 80 years. Deceased was highly esteemed and respected, and was from one of the oldest families of the parish. His mortal remains were interred at St. Gwithian parish churchyard on Wednesday last, when every respect was shown. The coffin was of polished pitch-pine, with brass mountings, and the breast plate bore the following inscription: "Benjamin Phillips, died Oct. 22, 1906, aged 80 years." The Rev. A. M. Baines officiated. Messrs. Eva and Son, Connor Downs, satisfactorily carried out the funeral arrangements.

Benjamin married Jane Stevens, daughter of John Stevens and Maria Dale, in 1864 in the Redruth district, Cornwall. (Jane Stevens was born on 8 Nov 1839 in Trievin, St. Erth, Cornwall, christened on 30 Nov 1839 in St. Erth, Cornwall and was buried on 29 Oct 1896 in Gwithian, Cornwall, aged 56 years.)
