Alice Thomas MAYNE

   Research Notes:

No christening record found. In the 1851 Census Alice is shown as born in Camborne. However, like her younger sister Susan, she was probably born in Illogan (the family was living there at the time of the 1841 and 1851 Censuses). An Alice Mayne died in 1859 in the Redruth district; however, as there was no other Alice Mayne born in Camborne in the 1830s in the 1851 Census, the death record must belong to a different Alice Mayne and Alice Mayne, daughter of James and Susanna, was the one who married James Mayne in 1853. As noted below, she is called Alice T. Mayne in the Censuses, and in the burial record Alice Thomas Mayne. This supports the argument that the wife of James Mayne was the daughter of James Mayne and Susanna Thomas, as does the fact that Alice's sister, Eliza, married Samuel Mayne, brother of James.

In 1861, Alice T. Mayne (30) of Illogan and husband James Mayne (30) of Illogan, mine agent, were living in Menherion, Wendron. Present was daughter Anne (1) of St. Austell.

In 1871, Alice T. Mayne (39) of Illogan and husband James Mayne (40) of Illogan, were living in Calstock, Devonshire, England. Present were children: Annie (11) of St. Austell Cornwall, James (3) of Calstock Cornwall. [Note: Calstock is on the Cornwall-Devon border]

In 1891, Alice T. Mayne (59) of Illogan, widow, living on her own means, was with her daughter Annie Craze and her family in Fore St., Pool.

Alice married James MAYNE, son of John MAYNE of Bray and Ann DAVEY, in 1853 in Redruth District, Cornwall. (James MAYNE was born in 1831 in Brea, Illogan, Cornwall, christened on 17 Apr 1831 in Illogan, Cornwall and died on 8 Jun 1872 in Tavistock, Devon, England.)
