Emperor Lothaire confirmed a donation of property "in pago Arduennensi sitam…Villantia" to the abbey of Prüm by "Richardus quondam comes…per Biuinum fratrem suum, et Gerardum et Basinum qui et Tancredus comites" by charter dated 12 Nov 842. Lothaire II King of Lotharingia granted him the abbey of Saint Peter de Gorze in the diocese of Metz [28 Sep/855/8 Jul 856]: this grant is referred to in the charter dated 863, which records the reform of Gorze abbey carried out by “Adventius” bishop of Metz, including the statement that King Lothaire granted the monastery to “Bivino…comiti”. The latest date of the grant can be dated from the charter dated 8 Jul 856, under which “Anselomus et conjunx mea Erkensenna...” donated property to Gorze, which names “Bivinus abbas”. A charter dated 857, under which “Fredalous et conjunx sua Blitgia” donated property to Gorze, at which “Bivinus comes atque abbas” presided.
The charter dated 863, quoted above, records that Buvinus was replaced as abbot by “Bettoni abbati”. He died before 869 when the Annals of Hincmar name [his son] "Bosone filio Buvini quondam comitis". 1
