In 1841 Samuel Shugg, aged about 35, mason, and wife Jane Shugg, aged about 35, tailoress, were living in Alms Hill, Helston, Cornwall. With them were children Richard (7), Samuel (2) and Mary (13).

In 1851 Samuel Shugg, aged 46, born in Sithney Cornwall, mason, and wife Jane Shugg, aged 48, born in Helston, were living in Lower Green, Helston. With them were children (born in Helston) Richard (17), mason, Samuel (12), tailor, John (8), scholar at home, visitor Mary James (76) of Helston, widow, hand loom weaver, and son-in-law Francis Pascoe (26) of Helston, married, taylor.

In 1861 Samuel Lugg [sic], aged 56, born in Sithney, mason, and wife Jane Lugg [sic], aged 58, born in Helston, were living in Lower Green, Helston. With them were daughter Mary Harris (33) of Helston, widow, house servant, son Samuel Lugg [sic] (22) of Helston, tailor, and grandson Wm Harris (8) of Helston, scholar.

In 1871 Samuel Shugg, aged 67, born in Helston, widower, stone mason, was living in Lower Road, Helston. With him was grandson William R Harris (18) of Helston, printer's apprentice.
