  Research Notes:

Lord of the Welsh barony of Avan Wallia (or Nedd-Afan) in the honour of Glamorgan, son of Morgan ap Caradog ap Iestyn, probably by Gwenllian, daughter of Ifor Bach. He succeeded his elder brother, Lleision, c. 1213, and, reverting to his father's policy of alliance with the Welsh princes, well served the interests of Llywelyn ap Iorwerth by harassing the Clare lords of Glamorgan. He m., according to the pedigrees, (1) Janet, daughter of of Elidyr Ddu, (2) Ellen, daughter of Gronw ap Einion, though one of his charters refers to a wife called Matilda. He had at least three sons of whom Morgan Fychan is the best known. A daughter, Maud, m. a Turberville of Coity. He d. in Feb. 1240-1, and was buried at Margam. 4
