"Mr. Edwin Mees, monumental mason and sculptor, died at his home, 133, Malefant-street, Cardiff, aged 73. Early in his career he was associated with the late Sir Charles Jackson, and was a fellow-pupil of the Cardiff Art School of Sir William Goscomb John.
Mr. Mees was responsible for the carving work when the old Philharmonic-hall in St. Mary-street was erected, and was also entrusted with the whole of the mosaic floor work at Cardiff Castle in the days of the late Marquess of Bute.
Mr. Mees leaves a widow, three sons, and three daughters. Two of the sons—Mr. Fredk. Mees and Mr. Clifford Mees—were in the business with their father, and the eldest son, Mr. Ernest Mees, is the London manager of the Ocean Oil Company, while a brother is Mr. Harry Mees, who has been associated with the Western Mail for 51 years and is the present father of the chapel.
The funeral takes place to-morrow (Wednesday) at 12.20."
