  Research Notes:

Gilbert de Notton first occurs in 1185, in reference to an agreement which he made with Richard de Eland. In 1202, he and William de Notton, his son, contributed to the third scutage of King John and to the aid levied that year, in respect of their thanelands (Pipe Rolls, pp. 55, 152). About 1200, William de Notton married Cecily, daughter and ultimately heir of Edith, Lady of Barton, who shortly after married Gilbert de Notton, father of the said William.... 2
