340. Fulk de Penebrigg alias de Penbrygge, de Pennebrugg.

Writ, 20 June, 24 Edw. I. [1296]

[Wilts.] Inq. made at Boscomb on Monday before St. James, 24 Edw. I.

Tudeworth. The site of a messuage, 89a. arable, 1a. meadow, pasture, 6l. rents of customers, and 2s. perquisites of court, held of the earl of Oxford, as of the inheritance of the said earl's wife, by service rendering 1d. yearly at Easter.

Fulk, his son, aged 5 on the day of St. Bartholomew next, is his next heir.

Leicester. Inq. (undated).

Ayleston. The manor (extent given), including 4l. assised rent in Stretton, held of the heirs of Richard de Harecurt without any service, because it was given in free marriage to Alice the grandmother (avie) of the said Fulk.

Heir as above, aged 4 on Saturday after St. Bartholomew, 23 Edw. I.

Hereford. Inq. made at Hereford on Saturday before St. Kenelm, 24 Edw. I.

Gyllouch. A messuage and a carucate of land and 10s. 2½d. rent, held of the king in chief without any service than suit every fortnight at the king's hundred of Wormeslouwe, and after his death one of his best oxen (unum bovem meliorem) for his heriot or 2s.; 40a. land held of Richard le Bret owing him 6s. 8d. rent yearly; and a water-mill held of John de Abbrehale, rendering 3s. yearly rent.
Ullingwyk. A messuage, ½ carucate of land and 12s. rent, held of Godfrey bishop of Worcester, owing him 1d. yearly.
Catteleye by Upleden. 7 marks 4s. yearly rent held of Roger Tyrel, owing him 1d. yearly.

Tonge. The manor (extent given), including fishery of the pond, and a chaplet of rose and three arrows (flectas), price ½d., held of Sir Alan de la Zouche without service; which manor Sir Alan de la Zouche, grandfather of the present Alan, gave with Alice his sister, grandmother of Sir Fulk, in free marriage.

Heir as in the Leicester inquisition.

Memorandum. That Isabel, late the wife of Fulk de Penebrugg who held nothing of the king nor of others by knight's service, petitions for the wardship of all the lands held by the said Fulk in socage, because she is next (friend) to the heir (who is) a minor aged 5 years.

To Malcolm de Harleye, escheator this side Trent. Order to cause dower to be assigned to Isabel, late the wife of Fulk de Penebrugg, tenant of the heir of Richard de Harecurt, tenant in chief, a minor in the king's wardship, upon her taking oath that she will not marry without the king's licence.
