In 1309 George de Charneles granted the manor [of Bilton, co. Warwick] to Henry de Stodle, parson of Elmesthorpe (Leics.), for life, with remainder to the heirs of his son Nicholas Charneles and his wife Joan. George was a knight of the shire for Warwickshire in the parliament of 1312. In 1319–20 his widow Lucy held the manor in dower. In 1339 his son Nicholas represented Warwickshire in parliament 1

Place: Westminster.
Date: One week from Holy Trinity, 2 Edward II [1 June 1309].
Parties: Nicholas de Charneles and Joan, his wife, querents, by Adam de Harwedone, the guardian of Nicholas and Joan, and George de Charneles, deforciant.
Property: The manor of Swepestone and the advowson of the church of the same manor.
Action: Plea of covenant.
Agreement: George has granted to Nicholas and Joan the manor and advowson and has rendered them to them in the court, to hold to Nicholas and Joan and the heirs begotten by Nicholas on the body of Joan, of George and his heirs for ever, rendering yearly 1 penny at Easter, and doing to the chief lords all other services. In default of such heirs, the manor and advowson shall revert to George and his heirs, quit of the other heirs of Nicholas and Joan, to hold of the chief lords for ever.
Warranty: Warranty by George and his heirs.

Action: Plea of covenant.
Agreement: George has acknowledged the manor and advowson to be the right of Henry, as those which Henry has of his gift.
For this: Henry has granted to George the manor and advowson and has rendered them to him in the court, to hold to George, of the chief lords for the life of George. And after the decease of George the manor and advowson shall remain to Nicholas de Charneles and Joan, his wife, and the heirs begotten by Nicholas on the body of Joan, to hold of the chief lords for ever. In default of such heirs, remainder to the right heirs of George.

[Commission of oyer and terminer] to Henry Spigurnel, John Paynel and John de Cantilupo, on complaint by George de Charneles that Nicholas de Asteley and Nicholas de Burmyngham with others assaulted him at Rokeby, co. Warwick, besieged a house into which he had fled from them, and made a great fire against the house, not permitting him to leave it until he had found sureties that he would do their pleasure.
