Per the GRO birth index, Emma's mother's maiden-name was Palmer, and in the 1861 Wales Census Emma Jones, aged 5, born in Newport Monmouth, was with her mother Elizabeth Jones, aged 32, born in Wells Somerset, builder's wife, in Christchurch Monmouthshire. With them was Elizabeth's brother Cornelius Palmer (40) of Somerton Somerset, beer agent.
In the 1871 Wales Census Emma Jones, aged 15, born in Newport Monmouth, was with her father George Jones (51) of Penalt Monmouth, builder employing 4 men, and his second wife Rosa* (31) of Hereford City, at 2 Sunny Bank Villas, St. Woolos, Newport, Monmouthshire.
