RELIEF KEEPER
Was Penryn's Common Crier
EIGHTY-YEAR-OLD Mr. William Henry Pellow died on Sunday evening in the Trelawny Park at Penryn, where he had been acting as relief park-keeper during the week-end.
A well-known personality in the corporate life of the town, Mr. Pellow, who lived at 46, Western-place, was connected with the council for over half a century.
Originally employed in the sanitary department, he was appointed a mace bearer in 1929, and retired a few years ago, after having served under 12 mayors. From 1945 to his death he held the office of Common Crier, and was a familiar figure in the streets in his tail-coat and high hat. For many years he was a gardener with the late Mr. A. T. Greenwood, a former mayor. Mr. Pellow's wife died three years ago. He leaves two sons.
