James married Janet COWAN, daughter of Robert COWAN and Elizabeth DUNBAR, on 12 May 1864 in Holy Trinity Church, Riverton, S.A., Australia ^{1 2}. (Janet COWAN was born about 1843 in Craigie, Ayrshire, Scotland and died on 18 Mar 1934 in 70 Taylor St., Kadina, S.A., Australia ^{5 6}.)
