"MADISON - Robert "Chip" L. Bambrough, age 72, died on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, in Madison. He was born on Nov. 5, 1928, in Madison, to Morris and Myrtle (Normington) Bambrough.
Robert served in the United States Army and was stationed at Valley Forge Hospital in Pennsylvania from 1947 until 1948. He married Margaret Covey on April 22, 1949, in Mauston. Chip worked in construction, then worked for Independent Oil Company and later worked as an engineering aide for the Department of Transportation, retiring in 1991. Chip enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and tinkering in his garage. He also found pleasure in building and remodeling, helping family and friends with many building projects.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Margaret of Madison; four children, Pat (Mike) Nitka of Sun Prairie, Ron (Rhonda) of Verona, David (Un Cha) of Madison, and Brenda (Ron) Sletten of Kendall, Wis.; ten grandchildren, Rob Nitka, Jason (Kori) Bambrough, Nick Nitka, Tina Bambrough, Charlotte Bambrough, Amy Bambrough, Kristina Nitka, Darren Gates, Keith Gates and Garrett Sletten; a step-grandson, Jody Sletten; a great-granddaughter, MacKenzie Bambrough; five brothers and sisters, [half-brother,] William Bambrough, [half-brother,] Jim (Dorothy) Bambrough, Harry (Arvella) Bambrough, Genevieve Kiely, and Delores (Roman) Laufenberg,
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; a half-brother, Wilfred Ulrich; a sister, Darlene Prickett; and an infant granddaughter, Angie Nitka.
Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
