Mrs. E. S. Evinson
Seventy-Five Years Colonist
An old resident of Gisborne district, Mrs. E. S. Evinson, died recently, aged 83 years. She was born in Australia, and came to the Bay of Islands with her parents 75 years ago, her father, the late John Northe, having been paymaster-sergeant of the 65th Regiment. Later the family settled in Napier, where the deceased lady's marriage took place, after which she saw some stirring times in the Waikato during the Maori war, having lived for a time at Te Awamutu. After making their home in Auckland for about twenty years, Mr. and Mrs. Evinson took up residence in Poverty Bay, settled at Te Karaka, where Mrs. Evinson leaves a sister and brother, Mrs. B. B. Johnson (Coromandel), and Mr. H. F. Northe (Te Karaka); also five daughters-Mrs. J. Burbery (Te Karaka), Mrs. Cogswell (Napier), Mrs. F. Weston (Gisborne), Mrs. W.Dunne (Arero), and Miss A. Evinson (Te Karaka), to mourn their loss. Her only son was killed on the Somme during the Great War." 5
