Richard E. Weston

HAMPTON -- Richard E. Weston of Hampton died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007.

He was born in Portsmouth on Dec. 27, 1934, a son of the late Richard S. and Josephine (Shaw) Weston.

Mr. Weston graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1952 and from the University of New Hampshire (summa cum laude) in 1960. He also earned a master's of public administration degree from UNH in 1976.

In the 1960s, he served for six years as special assistant to New Hampshire Gov. John W. King. More recently, he was the contracting officer for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in Boston, retiring in 1999. He was a musician in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, serving in the band on the battleship USS Iowa and later at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Family members include his wife, Ann Marie (Kelly) Weston of Hampton; a daughter, Lorriane D. Weston and her husband, Gregory Gell, of Concord; a son, Richard D. Weston and his wife, Merrianne, of Rochester; and two granddaughters, Alexandria and Lily.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lane Memorial Library, 2 Academy Ave., Hampton, NH 03842. Services will be held at a later date. Assistance with the arrangements was by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

WE REMEMBER: Richard pursued a lifelong interest in travel and photography, visiting 97 countries and almost all of the 50 U.S. states. He was a member of the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the UNH Alumni Association, The Music Hall in Portsmouth and the volunteer staff of the Exeter Hospital and the Warner House in Portsmouth. 2
