Nancy Louise Newick Platner

YORK - Nancy Louise Newick Platner, 60, died peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at her childhood home, Rivermouth, on Bragdon?s Island in York Harbor after a six-year battle with cancer. At the time of her death she was a resident of Norwich, Vt. and before that had been a longtime resident of Hingham, Mass.

She was born on May 27, 1943, in York, the third daughter of G. Mason and Lillian Hillyard (Neilson) Newick and graduated from York High School in 1961. She attended, among others, the University of Colorado, Leslie and Curry colleges and Vesper George, as well as many art seminars and spiritual retreats. She taught for many years as assistant director at the South Shore Conservatory of Music in Hingham, Mass. Nancy was an active artist, loved to travel the world and was unusually intellectually curious throughout her life.

She was predeceased by her father, G. Mason Newick, and is survived by her husband, Edward Weeks Platner of Quincy, Mass.; her sons, Benjamin Weeks Platner of Portland and Joshua Huntress Platner of Camden; her mother Lillian N. Newick of York; her brother Mason and wife Catherine S. Newick of Canterbury, N.H.; nieces, nephews, an aunt and in-laws. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
