At the time of the 1861 England Census Ann Hampton, aged 28, born in Brighton Sussex, and husband William Hampton, aged 37, born in Lullington Sussex, farmer of 1250 acres employing 69 men and 16 boys, were living in Applesham House, Coombs Sussex. With them were children (born in Coombs): Kate (3), Chrismas (1), and infant [son]-not-baptised (1 month), visitor Alice Davey (21) of Stanmer. At the same address were William's parents John and Mary Hampton.
