"Mr. Newick Goes All Out For Socialism

Mr. Gordon A. Newick, Iwongabong, Noondoo Siding, writes:

As "Paroo" wishes to know how I expect to supply sufficient labor to carry out State-wide crutching in spring and autumn, I will give him a general outline of a system in which every man will be compelled to pull his weight. Nevertheless, I don't think the crutchlng will be so much trouble as the shearing.
Action by the Government to declare all grazing and pastoral leases expired, areas allotted to each man to carry a number of sheep which he himself can control.
The number of sheep carried to 'be on safety margin to prevent trouble and losses from drought.
These blocks to be grouped five blocks to a group. The workers of these blocks must learn to crutch and work together in their group, crutchlng in rotation with whatever skilled labor can be made available to them.
Every man and woman to be paid A.l.P. rates, and all production to be the property of the Government.
Under this system the work will be done, not for the gain of some and burden of others, but every man and woman would bear an equal share of the burden." 3
