Abstract of the Will of James Hughes of Tymawr in the Parish of Llanfihangel Rhos-y-com in the County of Carmarthen, Esquire, written 21 Nov 1833, proved 3 Jan 1839. 3
Notes that as he has no children his brother William will become entitled to his freehold estate in Carmarthen.
Gives and bequeaths to his sister Elizabeth Philipps of Narboth in co. Pembroke, widow, his eight-day clock in the parlour of Tymawr.
Gives and bequeaths to his nephew Edward James Hughes his silver watch chain and seals, and wills that Edward does not part with it for any reason and keeps it within the family.
Gives and bequeaths to his housekeeper Lettice Andrews wife of Thomas Andrews a bedstead, a featherbed and bedding, the wardrobe in his bedroom over the parlour, the cupboard in the kitchen, and a little house called Tarter. He also gives and bequeaths to her the lease and leasehold premises of Tymawr for the remainder of the term, and that in as large and ample manner as the same was granted to him by his late mother Elizabeth Gwynne Hughes. He also gives and bequeaths to the said Lettice Andrews an annuity of £20 for the term of her natural life, this to be paid to her out the money left to him in the will of the late Mrs. Elizabeth Harris of Tregib.
Wills that immediately after his death his executor will take an inventory of his farming stock, implements of husbandry, household goods, wearing apparel and personal property and sell the same by public auction. And after having deducted the expenses incurred by his executor, the rest and residue he gives to his sisters Elizabeth Philipps, Anne Lloyd, Frances Justina Maria Lawrence and Catherine Garnons Lewis, share and share alike.
Appoints his brother-in-law Henry Lawrence of the town of Carmarthen, Esquire, M.D., executor of his last will and testament.
