“Bertramus de Verdun” founded Croxden abbey, for the souls of “Normanni de Verdune patris mei et Lucelinæ matris meæ et Richardi de Humez qui me nutrivit” and for the salvation of “mea et Roehais uxoris meæ”, by undated charter. The Testa de Nevill includes a writ of King John dated 1212 which records "Nicholaus de Verdon" holding land "in honore Lancastrie extra Limam" in Lancashire which "Roays mater eius" held. 1
