Will of Edward Herbert of Maes Machre in the Parish of Cemais in the County of Montgomery, written 4 Apr 1639, proved 18 Apr 1639. 2

In the name of God Amen the fourth day of April 1639 I Edward Herbert of Maesmachre in the parish of Cemais ... in the county of Montgomery. Sicke in body but in good and perfect memory thanks be to God my creator and redeemer do heareby make my Laste Will and Testament in maner and forme followinge:

Imprimis I doe give and bequeth xs. to the poore of the parish to be distributed by Mr Moses . . . . . . . of Kemmes churchwardens and overseers of the said parish.

Item. I doe give and bequeth to my eldest daughter Elizabeth and to my sonne in Law her husband William Lewis Anwyle esquier all and singular my Lands tenements and hereditaments within the realme of England or principalitie of Wales to the use and behooffe of the said William and Elizabeth and their heires for ever.

Item. I doe give and bequeth to my brother Griffith Herbert one heiffer and one bay mare to be delivered by myne Executors heareafter . . . . . . . named.

Item. I doe give and bequeth to my syster Anne Herbert one heiffer.

Item. I doe give and bequeth to my daughter Katherine Herbert one cowe.

Item. I doe give and bequeth to my daughter Gwen Herbert one cowe.

Item. I doe give and bequeth to my daughter Lowrie Herbert one cowe.

Item. I doe give and bequeth to my grandchilde Mably Jones five kyne . . . . . . .

Item. I doe give and bequeth to my grandchilde Anne Evan daughter to Evan David one heiffer.

Item. I doe give and bequeth all my cattells and chattells moveable and unmoveable to be equally divided betweene my said Sonne in lawe William Lewis Anwyll and his wyf the one halfe and th'other moetie or one halfe doe also give and bequeth to my Sonne in Lawe John Pughe and my daughter Marjery his wyf.

I doe also nominate constitute and appoynte my Sonnes in Lawe William Lewis Anwyll and John Pughe to be joyntly executors of this my Laste Wille and Testament and to divide all my forsayd bequestes and Legacies and to discharge my funerall expences and to receave all debts and writs? due to me . . . . . . .

I doe nominate and appoynte to be overseers of my said Wylle Francis Herbert and William Wynn esquiers.

In Wittness whereof I have heareunto putt my hand and seale the . . . . . . . daye of Aprill in the year of our Lord God one thowsand sixe hundreth thyrtie & nyne.
